A Quick Tip: Getting Picky Kids To Eat

(Just look at my tiny little 2 year old Clara!! She is such a doll :) She was also notorious for taking a bite of food, and immediately spitting it back onto her plate. Little stinker!)

My bloggy friend, Amanda at The Stumbling Christian, does a "Mommy Tip Tuesday" carnival...I thought I'd join in this week with one of my mommy tips.

This one is for all you parents who have a hard time getting your picky eater to do the impossible: put food in their mouth, chew, swallow, repeat.

I have two words (or should it be one??): TOOTH PICK.

This tip is especially useful for 2-3 year olds. I cut their food into bite sized pieces, put a little dollop of "dipping sauce" (we use lots of ketchup, ranch, and pizza sauce around here), and serve it up with a toothpick. The kids have such fun poking the food with their new utensil and choosing which sauce to use, their food is gone before they realize that they actually ATE FOOD :) Give it a try!

That is a great tip. I will be remembering that for when my Grace gets a little older!

Thank you so much for participating in my little carnival. I hope you join in on a regular basis. I'd love to have you!

That's a great tip! I have a hum-dinger of a picky eater here with an amazing stubborn will to boot! I'll have to try the toothpick and dipping sauce idea. Whatever works!

That is such a simple GREAT tip. My kids aren't picky very often but when they are, that will probably do the trick!!!!

THANKS!

Wow... I wonder if this would work for green veggies?

I'm giving away a book at my blog this week if you'd like to check it out! :)

My son is 13, but he LOVED toothpicks when he was smaller. He insisted on having them with everything. :)
About the juicer - 2 average apples and an orange will make a good-sized glass of juice - maybe 8 ounces? I got my juicer at www.nutritionlifestyles.com, and they have free shipping. Their prices are pretty comparable to everywhere else, and they are super fast. :)

Wow I am trying this tomorrow! I have a 3 1/2 little boy and he is SUPER picky. "I don't like that mom" "That will make me sick" "Oh thats not a good idea" Oh my word, every single day I hear this.. lol So I will give the toothpick a try!! Thank you!

My daughter (age 3) loves Fancy Nancy books. Fancy Nancy says "sandwiches do taste better when you stick in frilly toothpicks" so we put FRILLY toothpicks in everything.

That really is a great tip! Might work with the shish-kabob style, too.

What a great idea! I am definitely going to try this with my very picky 2 year old! He gets the food in his mouth but the then strong willed child will not swallow!

Great tip! I've tried dips before, but my 2yo just sticks her fingers in and licks. This way, she just might actually eat something! (At least, she'd have cleaner fingers!)
