If one believes that ...Cerissa - I agree with you. If one believes that the whole NT is the inspired Word....the key word being "if". Not everyone DOES believe that. Many believe only parts, or none at all.

I've had a very interesting and enlightening conversation with Rick via email in the past couple of days. I'm so thankful that he took so much time to correspond with me. He's very intelligent, and incredibly well-read. I, however, respectfully and passionately disagree with his theology.

Rick...if you're reading...thank you for sharing so much of your time with me. I really did enjoy our conversation (although I get the distinct impression that you're DONE with me...and that's okay :-) ).

I'm praying for you, Rick. I know that you've studied and researched and worked very hard to come to a belief system that you feel comfortable with. Like I said though, I disagree with you. I hope that some day you and I can sit an chat in heaven together "remember that crazy email conversation we had?!" You do not believe what the New Testament says of Jesus, but I do. And I've come to know Him in an incredible and personal way in the past few years. I want that for you too. I want salvation for you. I know that Jesus loves you so much that he would (and DID) die for you.

Peace, friend. I hope someday that I can call you "brother".Daiquirihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06040557437955969295noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3648926369091231553.post-12708309734445763002009-10-22T20:16:45.738-06:002009-10-22T20:16:45.738-06:00I'm sorry, I guess what I'm saying is: if ...I'm sorry, I guess what I'm saying is: if one believes the whole New Testament is the inspired Word of God, it is impossible to get around the idea of Hell.

Good Bog post :)Daniel and Cerissahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00646046715874333446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3648926369091231553.post-26278658031792824002009-10-22T20:13:16.302-06:002009-10-22T20:13:16.302-06:00Is this guy serious???Is this guy serious???Daniel and Cerissahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00646046715874333446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3648926369091231553.post-63642706878095246682009-10-19T15:15:36.796-06:002009-10-19T15:15:36.796-06:00Oh boy! Look, I know you're trying, but as you...Oh boy! Look, I know you're trying, but as you point out, "trying" to proclaim the ultimate truth is not the same as objective reality that doesn't bend to accomodate effort if the direction of the effort is incorrect.

Now, were you aware that Jesus, in his original, core message, made it very clear that God would never, ever hurt anyone or cause anyone any pain? In fact, what he tried so hard to tell everyone is that God wants only to RELIEVE suffering, not be the CAUSE of it!

It was MAN who made up the idea of Hell or perhaps the Devil, whose best lie was, not to convince people that he doesn't exist, but that God is just like him!

I've actually written an entire book on this topic--"Hell? No! Why You Can Be Certain There's No Such Place As Hell," (for anyone interested, you can get a free Ecopy of my book at my website: www.ricklannoye.com), but if I may, let me share one of the many points I make in it to show why Jesus COULD NOT HAVE believed in, (much less perpetuated the false doctrine of) Hell.

As just one example, in Luke 9:51-56, is a story about his great disappointment with his disciples when they actually suggested imploring God to rain FIRE on a village just because they had rejected him. His response: "You don't know what spirit is inspiring this kind of talk!" Presumably, it was NOT the Holy Spirit. He went on, trying to explain how he had come to save, heal and relieve suffering, not be the CAUSE of it.

So it only stands to reason that this same Jesus, who was appalled at the very idea of burning a few people, for a few horrific minutes until they were dead, could never, ever burn BILLIONS of people for an ETERNITY!

True, there are a few statements that made their way into the gospels which place Hell on Jesus lips, but these adulterations came along many decades after his death, most likely due to the Church filling up with Greeks who imported their belief in Hades with them when they converted.

You have to decide, then, if you want to REJECT the words of Luke Ch 9 as a falsehood that was placed on Jesus lips long after his death, or, that the few places that put Hell on his lips are false. Both cannot be true.Rick Lannoyehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15771612313060169125noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3648926369091231553.post-77913236224498588292009-10-18T15:26:08.697-06:002009-10-18T15:26:08.697-06:00Thoughtful post.
